There's no dessert in my apartment so I'm improvising. Cream cheese + sugar = delicious cream cheese frosting. Voila. Dessert.
If you cannot already tell by the title of this blog, I love cooking. I love food. I get excited over buying new pots and pans. If I didn't enjoy art school as much as I do, I would definitely drop out and head over to Kendall College for culinary school. But for now, concocting delicious things in my apartment kitchen in between design classes will have to suffice. Recently Corie and I started having weekly dinners at my place so that she could have a well-rounded meal at least once a week and I can also practice my culinary abilities. So far, so good. I do in fact like cooking for other people. I think of it like an extension of compassion, but in edible form. On Thursday I'm cooking my mother's beer cheese linguine for my dear friends John and Darbee. They are both incredibly honest and kind people, and I'm very excited to cook for them. I think that John is just looking forward to the beer part of the meal honestly.
For those of you that would also like to experience this delicious pasta dish, here's the recipe:
8 oz. linguine
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon instand beef bouillon granules
1/4 teaspoon pepper
11/2 cups milk
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (8 oz.)
1/3 cup beer
1. Cook linguine until desired doneness.
2. In a medium saucepan, cook flour, beef bouillon granules, and pepper in melted butter or margarine (use whisk for cheese sauce).
3. Add milk all at once.
4. Cook and stir until mixture is thickened and bubbly.
5. Cook for one minute more.
6. Stir in cheese and beer, stirring until the cheese has melted.
7. Pour over linguine.
Bah. I have Design Lab and the Bears game versus the Packers is on tonight. Great. I'll be even more upset when I miss the 'Hawks game against the Penguins tomorrow night. All of a sudden night classes aren't as cool as they used to be...
And Bears, please don't disappoint me. I'd hate to interrupt my class with sailor cursing because of you.
It's not possible. If I've learned anything in my almost twenty years of breathing, it's that much. You may know from my previous blog that I'm obsessed with topics that trend towards romance, true love, soulmates, yada yada yada. As much as I do love love, romance has done nothing but further complicate my life and bring me down on numerous occasions. This new blog is my attempt at a new start. Hopefully, if I stay the course, this blog will focus more on my unromantic life, revolving around such things like what I concoct in the kitchen of my apartment, the mischief I get into with my Chicago girlfriends, my fanatical devotion to the Chicago Blackhawks, how I can't sleep at night, my obsession with FoodNetwork. All that jazz.
