Chi Pucks Cancer

It's a little past 1:00 in the morning and it's one of those times where I'm having a hard time not thinking about my maternal grandmother. She was my favorite person in the entire world, and colorectal cancer took her life when I was eleven, almost nine years ago. Originally when she was diagnosed, the doctors gave her six months to live. She fought hard and she fought long. Six months turned into three years before she finally surrendered to the pain and fatigue of cancer. I was too terrified to say goodbye to her in person, something that passes through my mind at least every other day.

In August of 2006, my paternal grandfather was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He didn't make it to Christmas. I was like a stone statue in the church, trying to think about anything besides his body, so cold and soulless, lying in that coffin. I can still remember some of my relatives looking at me like the heartless stranger I felt like.

My paternal grandmother and maternal grandfather have been touched by cancer as well. Grandma is a 40+ year survivor of breast cancer. Grandpa has fought off both bladder and skin cancer. But it's still there, that lurking shadow. Cancer. To me, that word is scarier than war, rape and poverty put together. I have such an incredibly hard time facing that two-syllable word. It scares me senseless. My family can't even bring up my grandmother without me leaving the room. I dropped out of Relay for Life in high school because I just couldn't deal with it. Cancer is just hard for me to deal with. Admittedly, I'm hyperventilating as I write this.

It's for that reason that I'm incredibly excited for Chi Pucks Cancer. This event makes it easier for me to breathe when I hear the word cancer. Starting at 6:00pm on Saturday, February 12th at the Bottom Lounge (1375 W. Lake St.) in Chicago, puck junkies will unite to not only watch the Chicago Blackhawks take on the Phoenix Coyotes, but to also raise awareness and money for the Young Survivor Coalition.

I would be lying if I said that hockey had nothing to do with my enthusiasm for this event. Hockey has a lot to do with it. Hockey makes a lot of things in my life easier to cope with, including my continuing sadness over the loss of my grandparents. So it is with great happiness that I mark the 12th on my calender. I'll be going to Chi Pucks Cancer, along with Cari, and, if I ever get PayPal to cooperate with me, I'll also be making donations.

If you would like to make a donation to Chi Pucks Cancer, visit their website. To RSVP, click here. You can also find out more information on the event and the drawings that will be held for great hockey prizes on Hockey Broad's website. So please, make a pledge or place a donation. Every cent counts. Every cent is one more person that does not have to experience cancer or losing a loved one to cancer.

This is reality.

I guess he finally popped the question to his girlfriend Lauren Miller.
Congrats to both of them. They're quite the cute couple.
And I'm sure I speak for the rest of Blackhawks Nation when I say
"CONGRATULATIONS SOUPY! WE WISH YOU WELL!"

  1. First name: Melissa a.k.a. Missy
  2. Twitter handle: @richardsfan91
  3. Favorite NHL team(s): Dallas Stars
  4. Fan since: 1999
  5. How did you originally become a Stars fan? I saw them playing at a hockey game and fell in love quickly.
  6. Were you ever a fan of a different team before the Stars? The *cough* Detroit Red Wings.
  7. In your opinion, why are the Stars such a great team to be a fan of? Because they have the best fan base, and they are a scrappy bunch of guys.
  8. What is it about the game of hockey that you like so much? The passion that the fans bring to the game.
  9. If you could change one thing about hockey, what would it be and why? The head shots to the head cause so many players get injured and lose their careers.
  10. Which rule would you toss from the rulebook? The Sean Avery rule.
  11. Who is your favorite NHL player and why? Brad Richards because he is nice and friendly towards the fans. He’s a great leader and knows how to handled situations. He also has great vision on the ice too.
  12. What is it that usually endears you to your favorite player? His charity work and personality.
  13. Your favorite player has to be helped off the ice after a brutal hit. You react by: Yelling at the other player who hit him.
  14. If you could take a player from any team and put them on the Stars, who would it be and why? Duncan Keith because he slows the game down and is a great defenseman.
  15. What position(s) do you think is/are the most important on the ice? Goaltender and center.
  16. If you played hockey, which position would you play and why? Center because he controls the game.
  17. If you were to describe yourself as a hockey fan in one word, what would it be? Passionate!
  18. The Stars offer you a job within their organization. What is that job most likely to be? Photographer or graphic designer.
  19. What is your favorite Stars memory and why? Game 6 against the San Jose Sharks cause the game had hits, goals and saves. Had the passion that many great playoff games had.
  20. How/where would you spend your day with the Stanley Cup? At the Children’s Hospital because I would love to see a smile on a kid’s face.
  21. Do you think of yourself as a knowledgeable hockey fan? Why or why not? Yes I do because I can carry a good conversation and always read about the stats.
  22. A lot of female hockey fans are stereotyped. Why do you think this is? What do you think can be done to change this? Because many people think that females just follow the hockey players for their looks. If they had a hockey convention, I bet females would come and show the hockey fans that they love hockey and want to support their team.
  23. Do you think that the female hockey fan base is growing? One hundred percent yes.
  24. A hockey fan calls you a puck bunny, you react by: I am not a puck bunny. I love the game of hockey.
  25. Do you think that puck bunnies give female hockey fans a bad reputation? Why or why not? Yeah they do because they make the females look stupid and not know a thing about hockey.
  26. Do you think that there will ever be a time when female hockey fans aren’t stereotyped? Why or why not? Yes I do because maybe the males will take a look and see “Wow, this girl actually knows a lot about hockey.

  3. Favorite NHL team: New Jersey Devils
  4. Fan since: 1997ish
  5. How did you originally become a Devils fan? We used to get free tickets from a friend and it just grew on me.
  6. Were you ever a fan of a different team before the Devils? Never.
  7. In your opinion, why are the Devils such a great team to be a fan of? They are very loyal to the team. Even with the season we have had we still show up and cheer our hearts out to support our boys.
  8. What is it about the game of hockey that you like so much? The fast pace, energy and passion.
  9. If you could change one thing about hockey, what would it be and why? Nothing comes to mind.
  10. Which rule would you toss from the rulebook? Delay of game when the puck goes off the ice, sometimes it’s not intentional.
  11. Who is your favorite NHL player and why? Currently, Jason Arnott. He’s a smart player on the ice and has a lot to teach our young players on the team. I love seeing him paired up with our rookies; they could learn a lot from him, and he’s smokin’ hot.
  12. What is it that usually endears you to your favorite player? Someone who has a drive and passion and is out there to help the team.
  13. Your favorite player has to be helped off the ice after a brutal hit. You react by: I hold grudges for a long time; I still hate Alexi Kovalev for a hit he had on Dave Andreychuk over ten years ago. I take it very personally when they hurt my boys.
  14. If you could take a player from any team and put them on the Devils, who would it be and why? Stamkos. I think him and Kovalchuk and Parise could do amazing things.
  15. What position(s) do you think is/are the most important on the ice? All of them play their own role. You need a strong defense and goalie, but they don’t do you any good if you can’t score goals.
  16. If you played hockey, which position would you play and why? Goalie. Any sport I’ve played that’s always been my position.
  17. If you were to describe yourself as a hockey fan in one word, what would it be? Obsessed
  18. The Devils offer you a job within their organization. What is that job most likely to be? Photographer. I take hundreds of pictures at games; it’s my passion.
  19. What is your favorite Devils memory and why? Dave Andreychuk scoring his 500th career goal, and, well, because it’s amazing and I was there for it.
  20. How/where would you spend your day with the Stanley Cup? I would take it out to a nice dinner.
  21. Do you think of yourself as a knowledgeable hockey fan? Why or why not? I know a lot about the Devils, and the game itself, but don’t know a lot of players from other teams
  22. A lot of female hockey fans are stereotyped. Why do you think this is? What do you think can be done to change this? From experience I have female friends who claim to be hockey fans, but they spend the whole game talking about how hot so and so is. While I appreciate their looks, I also appreciate the sport. I think too many female fans don’t make that separation.
  23. Do you think that the female hockey fan base is growing? Yes
  24. A hockey fan calls you a puck bunny, you react by: I don’t think I would get offended, I would just have an intelligent conversation with them about the sport and prove I’m a true fan, or curse them out because I don’t care what they think of me.
  25. Do you think that puck bunnies give female hockey fans a bad reputation? Why or why not? No, I think it happens in every sport.
  26. Do you think that there will ever be a time when female hockey fans aren’t stereotyped? Why or why not? No, it’s just not how people view things.

Girls on the Glass

Okay you guys may or may not have known this, but I used to be a writer. I've been published, I was a journalism major prior to switching to advertising art direction and I used to write for the Courier News. I love writing and miss it immensely.

The 'Female Fan Frenzy' blog series that I run on here has inspired me (along with some supportive nudging from Cari) to combine two of the things that I love most in the world: hockey and writing. Yes, I want to write about you lady puck heads. More specifically, I want to write a book about you lady puck heads. I don't know what direction it's going to take yet, but I really want to do it. I can tell you this much, it will be a compilation of the FFF replies and whatever else I can figure out to fill it with content-wise. If you can't tell, this idea is not really all there yet. But hey! I have a title. I got that far...

GIRLS ON THE GLASS
Taking a look at the women
who love the game of hockey

Well, if anyone has some good ideas how I should go about attacking this thing, let me know! I love hearing from you guys and you know it! I'll keep y'all posted as this baby progresses or doesn't progress.

PS: If you have a problem with your FFF being published, you must tell me! Don't be shy. I will understand obviously! I mean odds are this book won't happen, but still...

Female Fan Frenzy: Update

I have now posted all of the Female Fan Frenzy replies that were emailed to me. First off, thank you to all of the lady puck heads that have filled one out thus far; you're amazing. Second, it has come to my attention that many of you ladies have recently changed your Twitter handle. If you have done so, please let me know your new handle so that I can make sure that the correct one is on your FFF. You can either tell me on Twitter or leave a comment on this post. Also, when you tell me, please leave your post number (can be found here) so that I'm not mindlessly searching through every FFF looking for yours. Thank you!

Female Fan Frenzy: Megan

  1. First name: Megan
  2. Twitter handle: @meganleighz
  3. Favorite NHL team: Chicago Blackhawks
  4. Fan since: I’d say I became a TRUE fan at 15.
  5. How did you originally become a Blackhawks fan? My dad. He played hockey growing up and loved watching the Hawks. We would always listen to the games on the radio, and when they finally had home games back on TV, we would watch together.
  6. Were you ever a fan of a different team before the Blackhawks? Nope.
  7. In your opinion, why are the Blackhawks such a great team to be a fan of? They are a team full of characters. Not only do they have some of the most talented players in the NHL, but they are just fun to watch! Blackhawks TV gives the fans the opportunity to really get to know the players on a personal level, and once you see their personalities come out, it’s hard NOT to like them!
  8. What is it about the game of hockey that you like so much? It’s a man’s sport. There’s so much work and skill that goes into playing the game. Also, it’s so fast paced. There’s almost never a boring moment!
  9. If you could change one thing about hockey, what would it be and why? Probably the outrageous ticket prices, but the game specifically, nothing.
  10. Which rule would you toss from the rulebook? Elbowing. I mean come on, you can knock someone off their feet but you can’t give them a nudge with your elbow? Let the boys be rough!
  11. Who is your favorite NHL player and why? Jonathan Toews. Not only is he a babe, but he gives 110% every time he hits the ice. He’s one of the best players in the NHL and he’s got the hardware to prove it! Really not bad for a 22-year-old. I’m excited to see what he will do in the future!
  12. What is it that usually endears you to your favorite player? His dedication to the sport.
  13. Your favorite player has to be helped off the ice after a brutal hit. You react by: Yelling. Loudly. And saying the only reason for the hit would be so that could have a CHANCE at winning.
  14. If you could take a player from any team and put them on the Blackhawks, who would it be and why? Hm, well there were a lot of players from the winning team that I was sad to see go. I’m going to have to say Big Buff.
  15. What position(s) do you think is/are the most important on the ice? I think they all play an important part. Can’t have a winning team without strong players all around. Even if you have the best goalie in the league, you need a strong defense to do its job.
  16. If you played hockey, which position would you play and why? Defense. I would love to be able to drill a one-timer past a goalie.
  17. If you were to describe yourself as a hockey fan in one word, what would it be? Devoted. Even while I’m in college all the way in California and can’t get the games on TV, I find them online or listen on the radio and stay until the end. Even if they’re down by four to the worst team in the conference, I won’t leave the game!
  18. The Blackhawks offer you a job within their organization. What is that job most likely to be? Absolutely with the BHTV. I would love to be able to interview the players and edit game highlights.
  19. What is your favorite Blackhawks memory and why? Wow, well they gave us plenty of memorable moments last year, but I’d have to say going to the parade downtown and celebrating with the rest of the city. I surprised my 10-year-old brother and woke him up early to get a good spot at the parade, and we got a GREAT view of Lord Stanley and the players (not to mention Kaner obliterated lol). Everyone was so proud and excited for the team. It was a moment I spent with my brother that I will never forget.
  20. How/where would you spend your day with the Stanley Cup? I would let my family take pictures with it, stand in our town’s fountain with it, ride the Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier with it, and then throw a huge party with all my friends and family and let everyone take a sip from it!
  21. Do you think of yourself as a knowledgeable hockey fan? Why or why not? Yes, because my dad taught me everything there is to know, and I loved learning about the sport. The more I learned, the more I fell in love with it.
  22. A lot of female hockey fans are stereotyped. Why do you think this is? What do you think can be done to change this? Because hockey gets your blood going, which is not “ladylike” so people assume they only like it because their boyfriend is a fan or because they think the players are hot. I think doing things like this can help change that. Also, just being in the public eye and talking about hockey. I really want to work with ESPN someday filming and editing video, and only someone with a good knowledge of the game could do that. Why can’t that someone by a gal?
  23. Do you think that the female hockey fan base is growing? Yes. Hockey in general is growing, and the more people that actually start to get interested in the sport, tend to like it because there’s so much to like!
  24. A hockey fan calls you a puck bunny, you react by: I don’t even know what the hell that really means, let’s talk about PK percentages and how sick Crosby’s short-handed goals are.
  25. Do you think that puck bunnies give female hockey fans a bad reputation? Why or why not? No, female hockey fans just need to be a little louder.
  26. Do you think that there will ever be a time when female hockey fans aren’t stereotyped? Why or why not? Sure. Maybe when they get a girl on ESPN highlights who can talk about hockey and actually know what they are talking about, then men might actually give us some respect! Until then, I’ll continue to defend myself, because I can.

Female Fan Frenzy: Jeanna

  1. First name: Jeanna
  2. Twitter handle: @JaLaskaKoko
  3. Favorite NHL team: Chicago Blackhawks
  4. Fan since: I’ve liked the sport since middle school (‘95-98) but I’ve been really into it since 2008.
  5. How did you originally become a Blackhawks fan? Even with growing up in Oshkosh, Wisconsin I still saw plenty of people wearing their Hawks gear, and in some way that got me interested in the sport. Also, having hockey units in gym class helped, too. I lost touch with it for awhile, but as I grew older, I paid more and more attention. Once I met my husband, who grew up in Chicago, and found out he loved the Blackhawks (and has been a fan since birth) he “schooled” me, so to speak. Then as the years went on, I fell more and more in love with this amazing team, and the sport too.
  6. Were you ever a fan of a different team before the Blackhawks? No. However, after rediscovering my love for this sport/team, I started liking the Carolina Hurricanes (I lived in NC from 2003 to 2010) and the Boston Bruins.
  7. In your opinion, why are the Blackhawks such a great team to be a fan of? This may sound redundant, but I love that the love for the team by the fans is reciprocated. I’ve never seen a city embrace a hockey team so much.
  8. What is it about the game of hockey that you like so much? The speed, the intensity. I love how physical it gets, and that you can never get bored. There’s always something to watch and get excited about.
  9. If you could change one thing about hockey, what would it be and why? Ticket prices. In most cases I think they’re too expensive.
  10. Which rule would you toss from the rulebook? Too many men on the ice.
  11. Who is your favorite NHL player and why? I have a couple of favorites. First of all my favorite is Jonathan Toews. I love how determined he is, his leadership and his talent. I’ve never seen anyone play like him, or lead like he does not only on but off the ice. My other favorite could be considered “unconventional” but I’ve liked him since July ‘09, and that is Tomas Kopecky. I think he’s improved his game since becoming a Hawk. I just love that he never gives up, and is always there to help his teammates. I also think he’s got a great personality.
  12. What is it that usually endears you to your favorite player? Well, the last thing I mentioned, personality is one of them. Example: the ‘09 Hawks Convention with Tomas. Just watching that forum discussion with Hossa really drew me to him (and Marian, too. Can’t forget about him!). Also, skill, and the way they interact with fans. If they can genuinely make someone’s day by making them smile, signing something for them, having a picture taken with them, that is huge with me.
  13. Your favorite player has to be helped off the ice after a brutal hit. You react by: Hoping and praying that he’s okay, and of course freaking out a little too.
  14. If you could take a player from any team and put them on the Blackhawks, who would it be and why? I miss Adam Burish. I miss his antagonizing ways.
  15. What position(s) do you think is/are the most important on the ice? I think they’re all important; it’s hard to pick just one.
  16. If you played hockey, which position would you play and why? Probably left or right wing. I want to be able to get the puck to the net in any way possible. Since I’m short like Kaner, I’m a fast skater, and I could get past guys easier than anyone else, steal pucks, etc…
  17. If you were to describe yourself as a hockey fan in one word, what would it be? Passionate
  18. The Blackhawks offer you a job within their organization. What is that job most likely to be? Probably P.R. or something to do with making sure the players have everything they need to be comfortable. If they have a problem, they have someone to talk to.
  19. What is your favorite Blackhawks memory and why? Other than that incredible game 5 against the Predators on April 24 2010, I’d say the banner raising ceremony. Seeing all the memories from the season past and everyone so happy made me bawl like a baby.
  20. How/where would you spend your day with the Stanley Cup? I’d take it to my mom and dad’s houses and let them share in the glory that is the Stanley Cup. I’d also have a party and invite all my family and friends.
  21. Do you think of yourself as a knowledgeable hockey fan? Why or why not? I’m always learning. I’m not 100% knowledgeable, and I don’t think I ever will be, but maybe one day I can get pretty close.
  22. A lot of female hockey fans are stereotyped. Why do you think this is? What do you think can be done to change this? I think it’s because male hockey fans think female hockey fans don’t know anything about the sport, and are just fans for the eye candy. If they could just figure out that we actually do know about the game, it’ll be much better for everyone.
  23. Do you think that the female hockey fan base is growing? Absolutely!
  24. A hockey fan calls you a puck bunny, you react by: I’d start talking about a great play that was made in the last period, and if they want to continue the conversation, fine. If not, they can just leave.
  25. Do you think that puck bunnies give female hockey fans a bad reputation? Why or why not? They do, and because of that most people think that all female hockey fans dress up, only care about how hot a player is, and act like they don’t know about the game.
  26. Do you think that there will ever be a time when female hockey fans aren’t stereotyped? Why or why not? I really hope so, because I think when you appreciate the actual game and more than just the looks of a player, it’s a lot more fun.

  1. Name: KW
  2. Twitter handle: @WandysMom
  3. Favorite NHL team: Chicago Blackhawks
  4. Fan since: The 80’s
  5. How did you originally become a Blackhawks fan? An old boyfriend in high school played, and he was a big fan. We’d go watch games at his house every weekend.
  6. Were you ever a fan of a different team before the Blackhawks? Nope, not a chance.
  7. In your opinion, why are the Blackhawks such a great team to be a fan of? They are personable, fan friendly, and the organization itself is great. How can you not be a fan?
  8. What is it about the game of hockey that you like so much? Hockey players are real, down to earth, they work hard, not that other athletes don’t work hard, but they are the toughest, that’s for sure.
  9. If you could change one thing about hockey, what would it be and why? I wouldn’t change anything. I would, however, change the prices of the tickets. It’s gotten way too expensive.
  10. Which rule would you toss from the rulebook? I don’t think I’d toss any rules out.
  11. Who is your favorite NHL player and why? I like our captain Jonny. He works hard, plays hard, and he always stays focused. He’s there for his team, he’s not all about “me,” he has a great work ethic. I’ve met him, and he’s just a very sweet, down to earth person. His parents raised him well.
  12. What is it that usually endears you to your favorite player? Some of them do a lot of charity work, and take time to visit kids, regardless if they are sick or ill; they really get involved with the community.
  13. Your favorite player has to be helped off the ice after a brutal hit. You react by: Probably swear like a truck driver. I was there when Ovie hit Campbell hard last year, was not happy at all. We lost him for too many games, but that’s going to happen in any sport, hard hits that is.
  14. If you could take a player from any team and put them on the Blackhawks, who would it be and why? Maybe Stamkos or maybe Ovie. I like watching them play. Depends on playing time too right?
  15. What position(s) do you think is/are the most important on the ice? Defensemen.
  16. If you played hockey, which position would you play and why? I think maybe goalie. More padding!
  17. If you were to describe yourself as a hockey fan in one word, what would it be? Intense
  18. The Blackhawks offer you a job within their organization. What is that job most likely to be? Fan relations, because let’s face it, you don’t want me on skates. Or maybe if they created a position of Team Mom, or bench bitch, I could yell at them, but in a much nicer way then good ole Q does it.
  19. What is your favorite Blackhawks memory and why? I’d say the winning of Lord Stanley, but that’s only one of them. My favorite memory was going to Denver to see them open with the Avs. I went with a good friend of mine, and when they scored, despite them losing, it was so loud, and I just remember some of the players’ faces when they saw how many Hawks fans traveled to Denver to see them play. Classic.
  20. How/where would you spend your day with the Stanley Cup? I’d probably take it to Marco Island with me to get some sun on the beach (great reflector you know).
  21. Do you think of yourself as a knowledgeable hockey fan? Why or why not? Sure, and an obsessed fan too, but don’t call me a puck bunny, I’m much too old, and I’d probably kick your ass from here to New York.
  22. A lot of female hockey fans are stereotyped. Why do you think this is? What do you think can be done to change this? It’s never going to change, but it’s nice to see a hockey chick know what she’s talking about, and making men look incredibly stupid. I think that usually shuts them up.
  23. Do you think that the female hockey fan base is growing? Absolutely. There are a lot of younger gals that play the game, and I love it; I think it’s great.
  24. A hockey fan calls you a puck bunny, you react by: I’m from Cicero, I’d tell them to STFU.
  25. Do you think that puck bunnies give female hockey fans a bad reputation? Why or why not? Sure they do. I see them all the time at the Hawks games. Unfortunately, I have sat by them once or twice. It’s embarrassing; they act like stupid little whores.
  26. Do you think that there will ever be a time when female hockey fans aren’t stereotyped? Why or why not? I doubt there will be a time when they aren’t. Why? Because men are stupid, that’s why. Women are smarter, we know better. And we will just have to keep educating them, right girls?

  1. First name: Emily
  2. Twitter handle: @GillainJohnston
  3. Favorite NHL team: Vancouver Canucks
  4. Fan since: 2008
  5. How did you originally become a Canucks fan? When I was a youngster, my family and I took a trip to B.C., and I thought that it was one of the most beautiful places I had ever seen. Later, when I went on a trip to Vancouver I fell in love with the city. Before this I had always enjoyed hockey, but had never really chained myself to any particular team. That is when I decided to cheer for the Canucks.
  6. Were you ever a fan of a different team before the? No, and I never plan to switch.
  7. In your opinion, why are the Canucks such a great team to be a fan of? The Canucks have a huge fan base, and while they haven’t won a Stanley Cup (yet) they still have this huge amount of fans. The fact that so many people cheer for them regardless of their Cups, makes me truly believe that they are one of the greatest teams in the NHL to cheer for.
  8. If you could change one thing about hockey, what would it be and why? I would change intermission times. The wait is almost unbearable between periods.
  9. Which rule would you toss from the rulebook? I would change the shootout rule. I know this was changed recently, but I really don’t like the way it works. Sure, endless overtimes until someone scores ARE time consuming, but it is also such a rush while you are on the edge of your seat waiting to see who scores.
  10. Who is your favorite NHL player and why? Ryan Kesler, because he is a player that has grown is extreme ways in the past years. He’s gone from being a simple defenseman to one of the most important offensive players on the Canucks.
  11. What is it that usually endears you to your favorite player? Confidence. I hate when ANY player goes in to shoot, and chickens out. Having a player that isn’t afraid to take a shot, even if it means maybe missing is what endears me.
  12. Your favorite player has to be helped off the ice after a brutal hit. You react by: Bursting dramatically into tears. Well, maybe not. I would be torn up, and worried about him, but he isn’t the whole team. There is the rest of the team there to finish the game.
  13. If you could take a player from any team and put them on the Canucks, who would it be and why? Well, I don’t really want to choose one because I love the Canucks current roster, but if I must, I would choose Steven Stamkos because that guy has been firing on all cylinders lately, and seems like you would be a nice addition.
  14. What position(s) do you think is/are the most important on the ice? I think defense is the most important. Sure the goalie is there to stop the puck, but if you have good defense, you could have the worst goalie in the league, and it wouldn’t matter.
  15. If you played hockey, which position would you play and why? I would probably play goalie, because as much as I love hockey and skating, I am not gifted at all with puck handling.
  16. If you were to describe yourself as a hockey fan in one word, what would it be? Dedicated
  17. The Canucks offer you a job within their organization. What is that job most likely to be? I would probably take over Kristen Reids’s current job a.k.a. team interviewer.
  18. What is your favorite Canucks memory and why? Tough one, but I would have to say when Kesler got his first hat trick against the Blue Jackets. It was a great night for Kes, and he really deserved it. I threw my hat at the television for him.
  19. How/where would you spend your day with the Stanley Cup? I would take Stan and show him around my home town, while my close hockey loving pals died inside with jealousy.
  20. Do you think of yourself as a knowledgeable hockey fan? Why or why not? I do think I am quite knowledgeable. I know practically all there is to know about my dear Canucks, and love to watch the Top 10 on sports center.
  21. A lot of female hockey fans are stereotyped. Why do you think this is? What do you think can be done to change this? I think women are stereotyped because hockey is basically considered a “man’s” sport. If a woman is a fan she must just be doing it because she thinks a particular player is attractive, or so thinks much of the male hockey fan base. While this is true in SOME cases, there are tons of female fans out there that love hockey because it’s a great sport to watch. I think that we, as true female fans, need to fight against this stereotype by proving that we don’t fit into everyone’s idea of why we ladies are fans.
  22. Do you think that the female hockey fan base is growing? I think it is. More and more women are getting interested in hockey, and I don’t blame them.
  23. A hockey fan calls you a puck bunny, you react by: Punching them in the face. Okay, maybe just telling them nicely that they have no idea what they are talking about, but I will be THINKING about punching them in the face.
  24. Do you think that puck bunnies give female hockey fans a bad reputation? Why or why not? Well yeah, it basically gives out this persona that we are all basically looking to sleep with hockey players and that’s it. It makes it look like we know nothing about hockey, and are just looking to sleep around.
  25. Do you think that there will ever be a time when female hockey fans aren’t stereotyped? Why or why not? Honestly, no. I wish this wasn’t true but all that it takes is one bad puck bunny and nobody cares about how many dedicated fans there are. As long as there is that one ditzy girl throwing herself at hockey players, I don’t think we can break free of the female hockey fan stereotype.
